| Sunny
and Not so Sunny
21 October 2003
It's 21 October 2003 and I left work early today
to go swimming!
For weeks we've had this weird fog blanketing the coast like a mildew
that just wont go away.
Val came 10 days ago though and brought the sun from New York apparently
because even though the fog rolled in again the night I took her
to the airport, it's been sunny and warm ever since!
I enjoy the beach, I'll say that. I love to have the sand in my
toes, stand in the surf and relish the natural exfoliation process
as the waves and the sand and the salt make your skin feel like
a baby's again (as long as you put on sunscreen 'cause the salt
won't do anything for sun leathered skin!). Still, I'm over SoCal
like the War in Iraq. I'm done with the traffic. I'm done with the
strip malls (Oh please God rescue me from this suburban hell!).
I'm done hearing about Arnold... let alone the accent! And I'm done
with the palm trees that line the streets so you can't see when
you're trying to turn. And of course, I'm done slaving away as an
un-paid intern.
I think the experience was worth it. Getting to see first hand how
a magazine, even a small one, is run. Learning what it is Dave (the
editor) likes and dislikes, even if I pray to God I'll never be
a big mountain photographer, I now know that there still is a place
for me in this magazine. And of course all the stuff outside the
mag, the drum circle in Venice, Hollywood, the contacts, spending
time with my cousins in Santa Barbara and in San Diego. Getting
the best tan I'll ever have! And if nothing else, the knowledge
that no matter how good the job op, I'm never moving to Los Angeles
and in particular Orange County, again! Though I guess I could spend
a month here and there in Malibu if I had to...
I'm leaving a week from tomorrow to head back, briefly, to my mountains.
I'll let you all know how it goes! |
