Hello everyone!
I wanted to let you know that I arrived safely to Lithuania and
am now installed in a nice apartment, about 5 minutes walk from
the center of the Old Town in a district called Uzupis... they say
it's the "Montmartre of Vilnius". There are lots of artists
and galleries around. It's a nice quiet, safe area and my little
market is just across the street.
I wasn't sleeping when I first got here and got a pretty nasty cold
which made it worse. But I was able to move in on Sunday and spent
Monday resting all day. Turns out they sell Tylenol Cold in the
pharmacy here so I got some of that and I'm feeling lots better
now.
Being here is like being in Aspen. It just feels right.
It's amazing how fast the city is growing, the new bars, restaurants,
stores, streets, buildings... the city is really coming along. I
hear there's even a big new mall with a super cinema like we're
used to in the US and they're playing movies in English with subtitles!
There's not much snow yet, but it's on it's way. I'm learning to
love the clouds... it keeps it warmer. But walking everywhere you
work up a nice toasty body heat anyway.
Now for the big news... I feel strange announcing it, I can't hardly
believe it myself! But I had a meeting with Cosmopolitan this morning,
and they offered me the position of Photo Editor! I'll be working
with Cosmo, and also the Lithuanian fashion mag Ieva and we'll be
launching FHM Lithuania (For Him Mag... that's like Cosmo for men...)
early next year! Frankly I think it's absolutely absurd, but I'm
gonna just go with it! They want a more professional, read western,
look to the magazines. I'll be working with the photographers on
photo shoots, working with the fashion editor to coordinate it all,
also shooting some of the stories myself, as well as choosing illustrations
to go with other smaller stories.
So things are looking pretty good at the moment.
My brother Joe will be here on Tuesday and we will to to Slovakia
for Christmas next Sunday. I'll keep you posted on it all! |
