Work is going great, Carlo, my editor has said
recently that he really likes my stuff, that I'm bringing in exactly
what they need and that my photos are getting better all the time.
So that's really exciting! I am enjoying it and shooting a lot.
On Saturday it was the 150th birthday of Central Park so I was down
in the media pen for the cake cutting. It is so exciting down there
with all the other photographers, reporters and camera guys. Everyone
is so nice and helps each other out. It's a really great atmosphere.
And it's so cool how journalists all stick together. It's not competitive
at all but really like a fraternity. Even though I feel like such
a rookie, no one else can seem to tell or if they can they don't
care and that is great.
I have been having a lot of fun, and for all the things that I don't
like about New York, the crowds, the lines, the hurry up and wait
lifestyle, there are a lot of great things too. Mainly, the Met,
I have been there probably 5 times now and no the whole museum inside
and out. I love going there. I went to the Guggenheim, a photography
exhibit at the Czech Embassy, another art exhibit at the Goethe
Institute and plan to see Kandinsky at the Ukrainian Embassy and
Whistler at the Frick this week. I have had Chinese in Chinatown,
watched the ferries at the South St. Seaport and wandered the Financial
District, which I really like but my cell phone hates. Also, Central
Park, most importantly the concerts on the Great Lawn. I have been
to three now, I went to my third last night with a Swedish friend
that was in town. We took a bottle of wine and some cheese and crackers
and sat out with 100,000 other people to hear two tenors that are
said to be the next Pavarotti and Domingo. They were fantastic!
I also heard the Symphony there last week. We're hoping to get to
Shakespeare next week sometime. They are playing Henry 5th and it's
free. You just have to reserve tickets.
Sitting on the Great Lawn as the sun sets over Manhattan is so incredible.
The sky had big white puffy clouds in it at first yesterday evening,
but as it got darker, the sky got clearer. I think it has to be
the most wonderful thing to do in NYC.
(Val are you taking notes??? ;)
And now to the reason for the title: the World Archery Champs were
held this week in the park, the recurve bow finals being held today
and yesterday. The Koreans swept, but the Swedish men's team got
silver today. That was fun. I have to say watching it was really
exciting, one would have never guessed. But if you ever have the
chance to see a competition, I highly recommend going. I have quite
a tan on my shoulders now since there was no shade to be had out
there!
So that's what I'm up to. I leave two weeks from Tuesday for LA.
In a lot of ways, I'll be psyched to leave the city, but I will
definitely have a lot of wonderful memories to take with me, and
always reasons to come back! |
